Shannondoah ( My West Virginia Mountain Home)

Purchased in September 2004, "Shannondoah" is my home away from home in the mountains of West Virginia. "Shannondoah" is located apprx. 3 hrs from the Washington, D.C. area and consists of a 11-acre, private natural preserve, a 1000 sq. foot log-sided cabin, and a one-of-a-kind view. It's a place to go to relax, to work, and to get away from the Rat Race of Washington, D.C. A special kind of therapy. Off the Grid. I will use this section on my website to share photos of the area and home with interested friends and family.

  • Stuart and Allison made their annual trek out to the cabin in October 2007. Stuart experienced a little road sickness (What? Are there curves on this drive dude?). We had a great time--as always. Congrats to Stu and Allison--they are expecting their first child in July 2008.
  • January 21, 2008 was the coldest (witnessed) day at the cabin since I bought it in September 2004. The temperature plunged to -0.7(F) in the early morning hours. This photo, which showed the temperature at 1.4(F), was taken at 8am. Brrrrr...

  • One of the most intense sunsets I've ever witnessed in the east. It reminded me of a sunset in Death Valley about five years ago. Awesome!!

  • This golden rainbow trout was Tom's first trout fished from the fresh rivers of West Virginia. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on our side during mid-February 2008: Between three of us, we only fetched 4 fish. We still managed to have a little fish fry with some tasty hushpuppies.

  • The winter of late 2007/early 2008 saw very little snow at the cabin, compared to previous years. This photograph was taken on an early Sunday morning. The dusting of light snow, combined with the early morning light, made for a unique landscape across the viewshed looking out from the deck.

  • The Crider Family (Kevin, Jennifer, Matthew, Sarah, and Julia) made their annual trek in February 2008. We had a great time inside the cabin (karoke: "It's the Final Countown...") to a freaky snowstorm in the late evening while at the campfire. Kevin's family truly enjoys the cabin experience! I welcome them back at any time and hope the children will always appreciate the freedom of nature.
  • Another great early Autumn sunrise!
  • Hot Doga, Hot Doga!
