Shannondoah ( My West Virginia Mountain Home)

Purchased in September 2004, "Shannondoah" is my home away from home in the mountains of West Virginia. "Shannondoah" is located apprx. 3 hrs from the Washington, D.C. area and consists of a 11-acre, private natural preserve, a 1000 sq. foot log-sided cabin, and a one-of-a-kind view. It's a place to go to relax, to work, and to get away from the Rat Race of Washington, D.C. A special kind of therapy. Off the Grid. I will use this section on my website to share photos of the area and home with interested friends and family.

  • Jay, Olivia, and April Blair visited for their first time in April 2006. We all had a wonderful time.
  • My aunt Joyce--October 2005.
  • The winter months are known for some very intense sunsets from the deck. This is one of the most intense sunsets I've captured on film from the deck facing the Southwest.
  • Switzer Lake is apprx. 17 miles from the house. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in Virginia and is fantastic for canoeing.
  • This is one of my favorite photographs taken from the deck. It captures the early "reds" of autumn during the crisp, mid-morning light.
  • Whitetail deer, along with other wildlife, can usually be spotted early in the morning or late in the afternoon around the immediate area of the cabin. During this early morning hike in October 2006, I saw numerous deer. This one seemed to like the camera.
  • My Jeep Liberty with Canoe on board headed down Fultz Gap Road during the peak of autumn's colors.
  • This cabin is located down the road from me and I think the owners have done a great job creating a classic rustic look.
  • The golden rainbow trout originated from a single rainbow trout that was spawned in the fall of 1954 in West Virginia. A trip to the hatchery is always fun and will make a anyone want to get out the rod and reel! The Reeds Creek Fish Hatchery is located about 30 minutes from the cabin.
  • Phil, Erika, Peter, and Ella during the inaugural rowing of my Old Towne Canoe! It was a perfect day for it! Switzer Lake, 9/2006.
  • Winter Bliss indeed!
  • I captured this scene during my week stay in October 2006. Splendid!
  • Cheyenne and Dakota belong to my nearest Mtn. neighbors--and good friends--Gary and Kim Whiteley. Cheyene and Dakota love the Mountain life (barking at deer, bears, and chipmunks--in addition to eating leftovers and snoozing on the sofa).
  • Quite a full cabin in October 2006! Jason and Amy's first visit coincided with Joyce and Tom's visit. We all had fun!

  • This photograph was taken in early April 2007. During an unexpected short snow storm, I got the camera and tried to create something different.
